What do lions, tigers or bears have to do with anything?

It’s a funny thing coming up with a business name, when the idea for this website was coming together, the one thing that I was adament about was that I did not want to have cancer in the title. The perfect name for my business had to be quirky, memorable and positive (like me LOL). I went round and round in circles, really struggling to find something suitable. I started looking at metaphors, symbolism, anything to come up with the perfect name… It had to symbolise courage, fierceness and have “oomph!”

Animals, I thought, maybe animals hold the answer. What animals are fierce, beautiful and strong? What would you connect with courage? Lions maybe? Tigers?
I couldn’t help it, the “Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh my!” line from The Wizard of Oz popped into my head, and there it stayed. The more I thought about it, the more perfect it seemed.
If you haven’t seen or don’t know The Wizard of Oz story (what is wrong with you!?!) it is about a journey in a strange land, that is difficult and fraught with obstacles, making new friends along the way, facing some scary situations, killing the wicked witch, and discovering that you had the power within all along. Oh my – it is perfect!
Looking into it further, the Lions and Tigers and Bears quote comes from the scene when Dorothy, Tin Man and Scarecrow enter the dark, creepy forest, on their journey along the yellow brick road to find The Wizard of Oz. They are scared and don’t know what to expect… will there be lions, and tigers, and bears along the way?
A lot how I (and I imagine many of you) feel in the face of a cancer diagnosis!

Wisdom from The Wizard of Oz

“There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger.

True courage is in facing danger when you are afraid.”

“You’ve always had the power my dear.

You just had to learn it for yourself.”

“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore…”

“Dorothy did not feel nearly so bad as you might think a little girl who had been so suddenly whisked away from her own country and set down in the middle of a strange land”
